Gabe Guertler is apparently mulling an offer to join the NTDP for next season. No word yet on a decision. Thanks to @WeissFC for help on it

Do you know if he was part of the original 40 man camp? I'm guessing he was. If not, I think the NTDP needs to do a far more better job in the players they invite to the 40 man camp and select their players strictly from that camp and freeing up all other prospects to be recruited or drafted by other teams. I've heard even the morning of the Futures Draft, that they inform coaches of players they are still interested in thus causing a whirlwind for coaches trying to figure out whether or not they should take a chance on a draft pick they could potentially lose to the NTDP. I know of an instance where this happened to a player and this player went undrafted and the NTDP didn't pick him up. Bummer for the kid.

I dont know if he was or not, but I am talking Riley Barber who played a whole year for Dubuque and then went to Team USA, now they are talking Gross and Guertler. It is bad enough that USHL teams lose players to the CHL but to lose them within the league without any compesation is absurd in my mind.

I agree it is frustrating loosing quality players to USA. Expecially when loosing a draft pick, futures or otherwise.

In the case of Barber, when he decided to go to USA before last season we were told it was because he wanted the opportunity (of course) and also to be closer to his family (understandably). I just heard recently, from a good source, he wanted to be closer to family because of health reasons within the family. During the middle of the season the health issues must have been taken care of because evidentially there was talk of him comming back to DBQ. I hadnt heard that during the season, but did just recently. Oh what coulda been.

I have always felt that the league does too much for the NDTP.

Let them bring in thier top 40, as they get the pick of the litter. Put together your 17 team and your set. Do all this before the USHL draft(s). After that, the need to follow the same rules as the other USHL teams and not "tamper" with other teams property. No USHL team will give up the rights to a top line player with out an equal player in return.

After that, if the NDTP program loses a player during that 2 year period, they should go into the free agency pool to replace them.

They also need to do a better job in thier due diligence when looking into these players background. I've watched them bring in some guys where you know the history of a player and what happens one year down the road? You guest it.

I thought players had to sign a 2 yr. contract with the NDTP and if they left early, they had to pay 50K back to the program. Is this true?

And to allow them to send the 17 to a USHL playoff spot, because the 18's are in a tournament is beyond logic. It should be the next team in the standings.
