Komets Claim Mike Vaskivuo From Rapid City....

I think this is an excellent move for the Komets, providing they sit the right player in his place.
I still think the Komets need a solid stay at home defensemen and I am saying this even if Dustin Molle does come back. Brent Henley and Bryant Molle are just playing INCREDIBLE minutes and they need some help!

Vaskivou plays all 3 zones, is no stranger to the corners, can put the puck in the net and is a burner. I had a funny feeling when I saw him on waivers that they would put a claim in on him... Glad they did. I think Bennefield or Thomas is looking at their walking papers or some time in the stands on "IR"....

I assume the 2 other guys are college/junior players.

Odd thing about this is the CHL only shows the Komets putting him on team suspension, not releasing him...
I also saw Michael Franke and Konstantin Shafranov (who helped bring Apod to the K's) have a conversation that looked like a sort of "clearing' the air talk... I wonder if Shafronov has swooped in to mediate?

I would expect exactly that. Keep him on team suspension until playoff rosters are set, then release him. If they waive him then he's under no obligation to actually go back to Russia. He could easily sign with someone else. You don't want him to become a weapon against you in the playoffs.

Yeah it was amazing how quickly they jelled after only one night. Vaskivou is fast and also like the fact he hustles to get back on defense too! Hopefully the Komets will give these new players a chance and also get some of the dead weight to sit in the stands.
Good point Gibby42 on the team suspension, you have to protect yourself against him possibly signing somewhere else!

Guess i never paid any attention when this guy played against the komets...but he has my attention now. I wish we cound get about 4 more of him. Great speed, great passing, i was shocked we picked him up on waivers...Why did the Rush wave him and why did no one below us in the standing take him first? Is he a high dollar guy?

I have no insider knowledge, but that would be my guess is that he was a high dollar guy based on his previous seasons, because he could have been an asset to any of a number of teams. As far as why he was available, some coaches have their favorites and don't like other players for whatever reason.
I haven't read anywhere about him being a cancer or anything...but yeah we are damn lucky to have him Look on our own team, our coach seems to the Leo is a better player then Mele which boggles my mind.
Hopefully this Miller kid can be a real shot in the arm on defense!

A guy who is a minus-15 with 11 points in 59 career games is going to be a big help? Stats don't always tell the whole story on a player, but this doesn't look like a very good pickup.

Yeah I agree his numbers don't jump out at you, but I am hoping a young former NHL draft pick might have some upside for us. On the whole stats don't always tell the whole story, Lovell on the Komets is a plus 13, but most nights he is coughing the puck up constantly and horrible first passes. My hope for Miller is that he can just be a solid defensive defensemen...if he can do that he will be a huge upgrade.
