According to several, the NPHL will not get off the ground anyways with little to no financial backing, but I did see today on their website, they have finally removed Flint from one of their prospective teams for this fall.

The thing with the NPHL is that they're ONLY going after local ownership groups... tricky market to do that in right now. A lot of buzz with Roanoke, slightly less with Richmond and Huntington, a few other places interested as well. Time is tight, and if the dominos are going to fall they're going to have to fall soon.
Given where they were looking I didn't see Flint working out anyway though. Too much travel without some extra teams in the middle there.

LOL, Flint has a local ownership group, they simply wont look at the NPHL. Roanoke has a group looking, but all the rest is just talk. Johnstown is out from what we are told and will go FHL or Junior.
I dont know why anyone is saying the time is right for a new A league in any market now when the people trying to start leagues have no money behind them and the economy shows the market, (demand) is not there.
Leagues can not exisit as a website. Announcing a league before having any teams is a sure sign of someone trying to make a fast buck on franchise fees. If the people starting these leagues had any money or were really commited they would own a team themselves.

I like the Southern Professional Hockey League Model. Too bad something cannot be started in the Midwest that is similar. ML correct me if I am wrong, but the SPHL seems to have some backing with deep pocketed owners.
Traverse City, MI by way of Flint, MI
Go Generals! Go Michigan! Go Red Wings! Go Pistons! Go Tigers! Go Lions!

The SPHL is a sound model. Teams almost always come close to breaking even of making a little. The key is the arenas and their location in non traditional markets. With relocated snowbirds, fans are willing to accept what some nothern cities will not in the way of pro hockey. That said, some SPHL teams are realy good. I would go as far as to say Augusta could compete in the CHL. Owners are well veted, and do have the money to back teams. I dont believe with all of the hockey options that a league like the SPHL can make it in northern markets. We simply have too many high level hockey options. Am I going to pay to watch A level or pay the same amount to watch NCAA D-1? The choice is D-1 simply because of the NHL prospects. Even the casual fan will more often than not make the same choice.
