wndrtkty, that rude fan wasn't me! I think that people are very happy with Keeney. What you probably ran into was a "fan" who was in love with the Jacks' former backup goalie. Keeney has done very, very well, considering the fact that he was left out to dry too many times in the past. Just get that rude guy out of your thoughts. I ignore them.

Muskegon's play tonight was what I've been seeing under McKenzie since he took charge (I missed Friday night's game due to illness). That's why I'm psyched ever since his arrival. We haven't gotten the wins, but the Jacks have played well from start to finish, which is all I ask for.

Hayden Stewart had a night-and-day performance compared to his first outing with the Jacks. And the affiliate players (I guess that's what they were) who came in tonight really stepped up.

Did you notice how the Girl Scout troupes got the cheering going in the final minute of the game--especially when it was 6-on-3? They need to come to more games.

I'm glad you could come to the games this weekend. Have a safe trip back to Omaha!

Oh don't worry, I won't let one fan ruin my experience. There's at least one at every single arena I'm sure. And I agree with you about the Girl Scouts. I heard more cheering in last night's game than I did on Friday, and I even commented about it on the Friday night thread. I really wonder if the fans would get into the game more often, even when the Jacks are down 3-9 if it would rally them to do better. But as you said, Friday appeared all around to be an off game.

Muskegon Chronicle/Scott Brandenburg Muskegon Lumberjacks soar to win over Chicago

Quote

There were a lot of questions around the 'Jacks going into the contest with four new faces in the lineup after the league handed down five suspensions following Friday's brawl.

How those new players would fit in was answered 4:22 into the game as newcomer Noah Batis knocked home a rebound for a 1-0 Muskegon lead. Michael Turner, another player making his 'Jacks debut, drew an assist on the play.

Muskegon's penalty-killing was superb as they killed all eight of Chicago's power plays, including close to three minutes of 5-on-3 time.

The 'Jacks, who were outshot 36-28, finished 2-for-5 on the power play.

OSC Lyon's 49 saves net the Lancers a point

Quote

Alex Lyon matched a USHL single-game high with 49 saves Saturday evening as the Omaha Lancers suffered a 3-2 shootout defeat at the hands of the Sioux City Musketeers in front of 2,471 fans at the Tyson Events Center. The Lancers earned one standings point with the shootout defeat and moved to a Western Conference-best 51 standings points on the year. Omaha is now 24-12-3 overall this season and suffered just its third loss of any variety over the last 12 games.

Skoff earned the victory in goal for Sioux City after 23 saves on 25 shots on goal. The veteran improved to 15-16 overall this season and has now won five of his last six starts in cage. Meanwhile, Lyon suffered the shootout loss despite a USHL single-game best 49 saves on 51 Musketeers shots. The loss snapped Lyon's personal seven-game winning streak as the netminder dipped to 18-8-3 overall this season.

SC Journal Robbins nets game winner in Musketeers' shootout win

Quote

Despite an overwhelming 51-25 shots on goal advantage, both the Musketeers and the Omaha Lancers were deadlocked 2-2 when overtime ended at the Tyson Events Center.

So, for the first time in 39 games, Sioux City played in a shootout.

Musketeers' leading scorer Brad Robbins flipped a shot past goaltender Alex Lyon. Three-year veteran goalie Matt Skoff stopped all three shots he faced and Coach Brett Larson's sizzling squad posted their fifth win in the last six games, 3-2 during United States Hockey League action in front of 2,471 fans at the Tyson Events Center.

"Skoff's doing unbelievable in the past couple of games," added Robbins. "He's kept us in there every game. He's pretty much the main reason why we're winning games now."

OSC Phantoms ride away with first ever win at The Stable

Quote

Alex Gacek led the way with a pair of goals and Austin Cangelosi and Sam Anas also found the back of the net. Goaltender Matthew O'Connor turned away 35 of 38 RoughRider shots for his 20th win of the season, tying him with Indiana's Jon Gillies for the USHL lead.

"You could see the hunger in Alex's face all day," Noreen said. "I know he wasn't happy with a turnover last night that led to a goal. He went out with a point to prove. It was probably the best game he played all year. The goals were just a bonus."

"There was nothing pretty about any of our goals tonight," Noreen said. "They were flat-out, hard-working goals - and it wasn't always our strongest guys.

"It was great to see. They're not always going to be pretty and we don't want them that way. We're a down-and-dirty, blue-collar team and those are the goals we need to get."

CR Gazette Riders fall to Phantoms

Quote

The tipping point in hockey is usually how well a team performs with or without a man advantage. The Youngstown Phantoms scored three even-strength goals in a furious five minutes to down the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 4-3, Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Cedar Rapids (16-14-8) had two power-play chances after digging themselves into a hole, including a five-on-three after a short-handed goal, but got only two shots on goal for their efforts in those two opportunities.

“(Youngstown) was very opportunistic,” Rider Coach Mark Carlson said. “You have to score on the five-on-three especially, and that is a player-coach responsibility.”

Saints' Site Saints crush Ice

Quote

Eleven different Fighting Saints tallied at least one point as the team scored a season-high six goals to defeat the Indiana Ice 6-1 at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday night.

Matt Morris played the majority of the game for the Fighting Saints, making 17 saves on 18 shots. Connor Girard played the final ten minutes of the game, stopping all four shots he faced. Jon Gillies made 29 saves on 32 shots in two separate stints in net for Indiana, and Dalton Izyk stopped eight of the eleven shots he faced for the Ice.

Force's Site Dzakhov's last second heroics propels Force

Quote

Stanislav Dzakhov scored with three seconds left in regulation play to give the Fargo Force a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Sioux Falls Stampede in United States Hockey League action on Saturday night.

Peters stopped 31 shots and picked up an assist on Chyzyk’s goal to put together a solid goaltending effort for the Force, who improves to 20-15-4 with the victory.

Storm's Site Storm comeback complete in shootout win

Quote

Center Brian Ward’s third-period goal and shootout game-winning goal assisted in the Tri-City Storm’s first win when trailing after two periods since January 30, 2010, as the Storm moved into sixth place in the Western Conference with a 5-4 shootout win over the Des Moines Buccaneers. The Storm have won four of their last five games.

G Pheonix Copley (9-13-0) made 35 saves on 39 shots and went three-for-five in the shootout win for the Storm. G Jason Kasdorf (10-13-3) made 29 saves on 33 shots and was only two-for-five in the shootout loss for the Buccaneers.

Tri-City went 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.

6 USHL games, two go to a shootout and 3 games are won by road teams.

I don't think the Jack win last night can be overlooked, as it has the ability to move the club ahead.

After a night where they melt down in a way and get multiple kids suspended they welcome the streaking Steel and their 4 game win streak minus 4 starters replaced by NAHL types, start there #2 (Hayden Stewart) in his second USHL start after getting bombed in his first and not only win but do so convincingly, 6-1. All this while killing of 9 penalties and over 3 minutes of 5 on 3 against.

Lets see if the Jacks can build off of such an unlikely win and tighten up as a unit.

Guess we are seeing the good Musketeers right now, as they win their 5th in 6 games defeating 1st place Omaha in a shootout. Lotta jump in the Musketeers' step right now as they fire 52 at Lyon who was huge in getting out of SC with a point for the Lancers.

Nice weekend for the Phantoms, as they get two road wins at Dubuque and Cedar Rapids. O'Conner ties Gillies for the league lead in wins with 20!

After a solid 3-2 OT win in GB the Ice get lumped at Dubuque, 6-1. It seems Morris was pulled with 10 minutes to go after kicking out 17 of 18 for the Saints. Hope all is well for him....... After this weekends action the Ice sit in 2nd with 51 points followed by both Dubuque and Ytown with 49 points.

Tough home loss for the Storm as they give up the game winner to the Force with 3 seconds left. If they had made it to OT that would be the 2nd night in a row and a guaranteed point for the 2nd straight night. The win for Fargo ties them with the Hawks at 44 points and pulls them within 2 points of 2nd place Lincoln, although both clubs have games in hand on Fargo.

The Bucs lose a 2 goal 3rd period lead and lose in a shootout as they drop their 6th in a row. Quietly the Storm have put together a nice little run winning 4 of their last 5.

Video highlights from Tri-City's 5-4 OT win over Des Moines: http://youtu.be/r6i3LIy94Js

At the 4:40 mark of the video you can see TC's Tim Lappin get kicked out of the game after an "obscene gestures misconduct." Looks like he flipped off the Des Moines crowd on the way to the penalty box.

Already watching the highlights, Kasdorf is not impressive and he hasn't given up a goal yet. Flopping around all over the place and out of position.

Amazing, like a golf swing a goalie can lose his game and have such difficulty finding it again.

Believe me, after I first saw him, I was on the same boat you were. The kid was flat out good and never out of position. Do you give Frey some starts to show that Kasdorf's play isn't going to cut it, or do you keep going with Kasdorf to show you have confidence and believe he will get out of his funk?

Good question. I wonder if DM has a goalie coach who on site often? My guess is Simon would lean on his expertise as to whether this is a mental or physical funk Kasdorf is in and proceed from there.

The Bucs have a little wiggle room as they are tied with TC for the last playoff spot but have 3 games in hand. A small margin for error, but some just the same if they want to let Kasdorf play out of this..

It will be interesting to see how the deadline goes. I have heard some musings about the possibility of what TC will do or what's been talked about. They're finally clicking and they've got a shot to sneak in. DM just is too inconsistent. It was a big win for TC. Also, I wonder how the East will shape up. Seems to be Indy as the only one who wants to alter their roster.
