Sheva and Pitoscia actually calling penalties. :lolz:
Just joking boys, and congrats to all four officials selected to the prospect game.

Love them or hate them, they too are trying to make the next level, and at the very least deserve some respect.
Congrats again!

They call lots of penalties....typically they are against the opposite team that you are rooting for though.

As much as I like to yell at "Pistachio" as our section calls him, I would rather see him with the orange band then Kronfrost.

From what I've gathered in here, along with my personal experience, it'd seem that Kronfrost, Sheva, and Pitoscia tend to have an anti-home team bias, yes?

I've never been a fan of Sheva. He refereed a Fargo vs. Omaha game at the Civic 3 years ago that got completely out of hand. Sad that I still remember that, but it was the one where C.J. Ludwig checked a Fargo player mid ice that ended up injuring the guy. Sheva had absolutely no control the entire game. When he did call penalties they were debatable, and most of the time he didn't call anything at all and the lack of calls got to the players. Things were downright nasty that night.

I've seen good and bad from both Pitoscia and Sheva, so I guess I don't have an opinion either way.

The only referee I really don't care for is Kevin Curtis. I'm convinced he doesn't like the Stars, and wonder if one of our coaches stole his girlfriend years ago. Twice last season he gave Stars opponents 12 powerplay opportunities in a game. In one game against Sioux Falls last year, SF was awarded 12 PP opportunities to Lincoln's 2. He's another guy who can lose control early (see this past weekend in the Lincoln-Omaha gong show). I don't have a problem with most refs because I understand this is a developmental league for officials too. But some guys (Curtis) love being "the show." Instead of the game or the players being the show, they like to put themselves front and center. Not a fan of those types of officials.

Does anyone wonder if the refs/linesmen selected to this game were picked in an effort to try and get them out of the league? I mean, the new officials for this year (at least I'd never noticed them before) seem to be in a lot better control than some of the old guard.

I think those boys earned it... They have all put in their time in the USHL from what I've seen on box scores and attending games. Do you think any other officials are more deserving?? Hard to say. The USHL is blessed with great officials this year!

I must be having problems with my screen on my computer this morning. I can't find the j/k or the smilie face to tell me that this post is a joke. If it wasn't for Sheva, Pitoscia and Kronfrost, I would have to agree with the rest of your post.

Sheva was in love with Team USA during last weekend's 2 games in Muskegon, that much was evident.

Do you think others are more deserving tho? These are guys on most of the big games from what I've seen, they have to be doing something right.

They are officials- we are so called hockey experts since we can sit behind our computer screens and know it all, do we really care- no we start ripping them a game 3 years ago- lets move on. The Lancers where 0-48 and seems like fans have moved on, I thought these guys where developmental like the players- shouldnt we as the fans of the league- kind of be understanding to that? Congrads to ALL in this game even the zebras- who I wouldnt want their jobs. My team won on Friday- that referee should work (Kronflakes?) and Sheva worked on Saturday and my team lost so he should be fired- next week when the Jacks win and if Sheva is on the ice he is the best. On Saturday the fact that the Jacks gave up the lead .10 second after tieing the game or only had 18 shots on net had nothing to do with the loss! My old team I liked Sunday (Chicago) won- maybe the guys who worked that game should have worked- since that was Chicago's 10th win!

I'll take the jab at holding on to a game that was 3 years ago. I've been told many times in my life I need to let go. :)

However, my objection with these officials is not that my team loses when they referee my games, it is that they have no control over the game that they are officiating which leads to a lot of cheap shots (from BOTH teams) a lot of dumb penalties and overall chaos on the ice. All referees have made a bad call or two, and while I may not like a specific call I understand that they are making the call based on what they saw (or thought they saw). My biggest request is that they call a clean (hopefully unbiased) game and keep the players focused on hockey and not beating the crap out of one another.

I understand your POV from the standpoint of the Gamblers series that year against Indy. The year prior, at the conclusion of Game 2, Mike Cichy came across and absolutely cross-checked Reed Seckel and that set off a bench scuffle that lasted about 10 minutes. The refs didn't do anything to prevent by allowing a kicked in goal earlier that made the game closer than it should've been. The next year(same year as Fargo/Omaha), during the 3rd period of Game 2, a few Indy players(namely Nick Bailen), decided to take pot shots behind the play and did leave a few dents in some of the Gamblers. The ref did nothing but look at it and that was that. At the end of that game, Coop didn't even shake Blashill's hand. They're very good friends so I sensed a bit of gamesmanship going on. Judging by last weekend's turn of events, it's safe to say that the officials are feeling some heat for just being very loose with their observances. One way or another, if it continues, Scott Brand's e-mail box will be full and he will once again be on a pedastal he, I'm sure, is hoping to avoid.

All I ask is that a ref call an even game for ALL TEAMS. I don't care if he calls everything or nothing in the game, as long as he is consistant with both teams on the ice.

When a USNTDP player throws his gloves onto the ice, the Lumberjack player skates away down the ice, and the zebrahead sees it all but doesn't call anything, then what I see is favoritism.

USNTDP made each one of their goals fair and square in that game Saturday night. My comments on the occasionally pathetic officiating in this league doesn't take away from the players' accomplishments. The wrist shot 10 seconds after the Jacks tied it up was especially good, and despite the fact that it was made by the opposing side, I enjoyed seeing it. But when the US team keeps trying to goad Muskegon into fighting and they don't bite, and then little boy blue chucks off his mitts and isn't called for it--how else can one explain it except for selective officiating.

I'm not sure these officials play favorites, but there definitely is a differential in talent. Guys like Thomson and Johnson seem struggle more then others. Just an observation!

5 min into the game, Pitoscia has dug Dubuque quite a hole... Z gets two hand slash in the bak of the leg and doesn't get a call. He reacts with a slash on the legs of the Phantom player an gets a double minor and a game. Phantoms get away with nothing. Z was defeinty guilty. No way should have been a game and poor no call for the phantom player. All was after the whistle as well. Monty yelling for an explanation gets a bench minor. Pathetic officiating!
