Wow........after 2 years in prison....ok, Bogdan, you can go now...no hard feelings.....
I seriously would like to know how they kept him locked up for that long with no physical evidence and only the word of a supposed confession from a girlfriend???

JR this happens every day, unfortunately all it takes is one person to swear a statement on another and you could find yourself fighting for your life. There is no way to seek compensation from the government either. Because they are acting on "information and belief" they are not at fault. This unfortunately is all to common, and only talked about in cases that are publicised.

I understand that; but it would seem that there were multiple sources that pointed to this woman not being the most credible person. A laywer friend of mine (he has been both a prosecuter and defense lawyer) has told me that one of the first things done in case like these are background checks on everyone involved in the case... Now, I would have to ASSUME here that the same thing was done in this case very early in this case and that red flags had to have popped up then???.....

Unfortunately, background checks are not always done. In some states the law is clear and officers are almost forced to arrest an acussed person on a statement, and do the investigating later. Having practiced for more than 20 years, I can tell you that in Michigan, if a sworn affidavit is made, a warrant will be issued, and the investigation will take place after issuing. I have seen this hundreds of times. I once had a client arrested on an affidavit and we didnt learn what his charges were until nearly three days later, yet a bond was issued in 24 hours. Here a man's life has been altered forever and he has no recourse. This is a shame, and is not uncommon, which makes it that much more offensive.
