These guys do a fantastic job on their weekend preview.  Lotta good games on tap.

USHL Site   Weekend Preview

It will be an interesting test for Chicago, as they will be without the services of Blake McLaughlin for the first time this season as he heads back to Minnesota to finish his high school season. The University of Minnesota commit is tied atop the USHL scoring lead, and the Steel will try to replace the strong offensive production of McLaughlin.

Really good night for the fans.  The champs at Dubuque, the 2nd of two at Fargo with Des Moines winning the first, CR @ Madison coming off a thriller at SF where they were up 6-0 at 13:00 of the 2nd and hang on to win 7-6 in a SO, GB @ Omaha in 2nd place on the strength of a 3-0-1 run and going to extra frames in both games last weekend at first place Chicago, a rivalry game with struggling last place SC on an 0-4-1-1 streak at SF, surprisingly YT in last place at CI as they play their first at home (unless they pushed the "home" opener back again) and what could be the tilt of the night as PK's boys have lost 4 of their last 5 (but are 5-2 on the road) travel to white hot Tri City where Noreen has them on a 6 game win streak and are 8-1 overall with the best win percentage in the league.

The 1st place Mighty Steel losers of two of their last three last weekend travel to 6th place Dubuque for their only game of the weekend.  The two have met at each other's arena with the Steel taking both, a 6-2 clubbing at DBQ in the first game of the season and a much better game Oct 20th at Chicago that the Steel took 3-2 despite the Saints outshooting em 35-25.

The Steel will be without Blake McLaughlin who is 2nd in league points, two behind teammate Jack Dugan, as he heads back to the hood to play MN HS hockey with his homies.  Veeeeery interested to see who slides into his spot at LW on 1st line with Dugan and centerman Shore. IMO coach has plenty of options and wonder if he'll look to keep more 3 line scoring balance or insert a guy like 01 Budgell, who he seems to have an affinity for lining him up at times in the top line with Shore and Dugan.  I know this won't happen but my guy Abruzzusse is a left shot and has the skating, skill and awareness to play with the top line.  But a kid like Mastrosimone an 01 who can slot on any line has the IQ/3 zone game to make a scorer like Dugan even better.  And of course another of my guys Jordan Seyfert, a right shot, with a 3 zone game has top 6 skill but has been slotted bottom 6 and recently 3rd line with my guy Mastro.

Also we'll have to see who takes his roster spot and I haven't an idea who that might be as the affiliate lists are locked up at Fort Knox guarded by a combination of the Navy Seals, the Army Rangers and the Knights Templar.

Saints have found some scoring as they have popped for 5 and 6 vs CI and 5 vs Omaha in their last 3 after not scoring more than 2 in any game.  OM is 8th in GA and CI 11th.

CHI is 1st in GPG and dead last in GA despite Oskar Autio ranking 3rd in non-USA goalies in SPG with a .925 (Steel give up tons of shots).   Saints have climbed to 12th in GPG and 2nd in GA.

Steel 16th in shots per game despite leading the league in goals per game and 15th in SA (due for a correction???).  DBQ 13th in SF and a sparkling 2nd in SA (Castor with a .906 SPG ranking 15th).

CHI is a special teams beast leading the league in both PP and PK.  DBQ ranks 9th on the PP and a surprising 11th on the kill despite ranking 2nd overall in GA.

Chicago is 4-1 on the road DBQ 2-2 at home.

HockeyPhan.com/Justin Irwin  Phantoms week 6 preview

With 3 games in less than 72 hours on the road against teams that have already beat us it'll be a tall order. However, those kind of victories can be the thing that starts to swing momentum in a teams favor and boy, could we sure use a little momentum swing. First off it's to Central Illinois (6-5-0-0) to play the Flying Aces on Friday, then to Muskegon to face the Lumberjacks (4-5-0-1) in a Saturday night-Sunday afternoon match. It hasn't been too long since we played both teams so not much has changed in my scouting.

Jacks Site/Scott Bradford  Weekend Preview

In the midst of a season-long six-game homestand, the Muskegon Lumberjacks are building momentum. They have earned points in three of their last four, and are coming off a 3-0 shutout victory over the Central Illinois Flying Aces. This weekend, their six-game homestand concludes with two matchups against the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lumberjacks are 2-1-0 against Youngstown so far this season, and in the midst of a stretch where they play their rivals five times in eight games.

Thanks to an improved power play and increased scoring depth, Muskegon has outshot their opponents in five consecutive games. The Jacks have climbed to sixth in the league in shots on goal per game (31.40) and rank fourth in shots allowed per game (27.30).

Bloomington Pantagraph/Joe Deacon  Flying Aces eager for long-awaited Bloomington debut

It took longer than originally expected, but the Twin Cities’ hockey team finally gets to show off its new look in its hometown.

The writer Joe Deacon has been a staple in Bloomy forever.  Interesting how the franchise is being billed as Twin Cities' Hockey Team (Bloomington-Peoria).  No doubt Deacon was fed that.

McLaughlin is in the Steel lineup!!!   Dilks had him going back to HS this weekend.  We'll see if that lasts......... I like Stevens at 3C, great to see my guy Abruzzese playing 4C, maybe Magera can help more at W instead of C.  Gratton has been as good a player as this team has had the last 3-4.  Him on the 3rd line with the stout Bucek and Stevens makes for a big 3rd line and legit 3 scoring lines.

Lillibridge has a blow out at the O blueline, the rocket ship Preston pounces, Dman Pietroniro matches strides with the speed demon and knocks the puck away after a 150 foot race in front of Autio!!! Wow......

About 5 minutes in and the Saints D has had two horrible giveaways behind their net leading to excellent Steel chances.  Castor has said no, so far........ Saints D has done this since opening night IMO.

Early but it looks to my eye the Steel have the same plan vs Castor as they've had the previous 2 games, get any and all pucks at him.

I usually switch back and forth between Sanderson and Kuhns when the champs play DBQ but HTV doesn't have the Steel feed so listening to Kuhns and Leitner.   ...  Kuhns mentions during the action my guy Abruzzuse is a -5 in his last 4 games.  One of the reasons Kuhns is as good as this league has to offer.  His preparation notates what a Steel 4th liner and sometimes healthy scratch has done the last few games.  That's good stuff and makes Kuhns a must listen.

Biggest difference do far tonight in Fargo is Des Moines can't stay out of the box. Fargo 3 for 4 on the power play in the first period. S-S gets 11 and 12 so far for the season.

Agree with Leitner, Dugan could have easily been whistled for a dive on the trip he drew......... Top ranked 35% Steel PP goes to work vs the Saints' 11th ranked kill at 8:04 of the 1st. (edit) Kuhns mentions the DBQ kill is 12 for its last 12 and Steel are 1 for it's last 7 PP's...............Another edit, Steel 4 for 6 on the PP this yr v DBQ.
