Just got an email from the league about the Fall Classic.

The 2017 USHL Fall Classic will be held Sept. 28 Oct. 1 in Pittsburgh, PA hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. All 17 member clubs will participate throughout the weekend. Further details will be announced at a later date.

Not sure about the location but very much like that the FC is not split into two different locations............

Interesting.........

The territorial rights held by the Indiana Ice, have expired. The team was forced to withdraw from the league following the 2014-15 season due to issues with their facility.

Awful. Taking the Fall Classic away from 99% of the fans that would actually attend. Garbage, but not surprising...

Assuming they are trying, or feeling out, to sell the brand out East.   No?  What other reason can it be?

The eastern conference Fall Classic was there last year. Everyone got felt up then.

The NHL and its' member clubs were not happy having 2 fall classics last year and that's why the change.

In addition with a majority of the NHL clubs being east of the Mississippi River they decided on Pittsburgh over Omaha. Probably way more non stop flights to Pittsburgh than Omaha also,

The smarter move would have been having it in Chicago where the Steel play. A lot closer for the western conference teams and 2 airports to fly into.

Fox Valley does have two sheets but how well it could handle a big event would be questionable.  I think they only have 4 locker rooms and the nearest rink that could handle some overflow is probably 15-20 miles away. How well does the FC draw, how many?

Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates is closer to Chicago but is a big arena, seats 6k plus.  ........... The FC was great when it was held in SC for so many years.  What is the objective of the thing?  Is it for the fans or scouts?

IMO, Not for fans.

1st,  More for individual teams to evaluate players

2nd, for scouts, whether it be NAHL, other Jr leagues, NCAA, CHL and NHL

Fans aren't the biggest concern

Pittsburgh is all about scouting.  56% of all NCAA programs are in the North East.  Agree though, not exactly fan friendly.  The USHL heading east isn't likely.  The NAHL is struggling out there to say it politely.  Not enough arenas available that would meet Tier I standards either.

The Indy news is disappointing.  Then again, saying the territory rights expired could be read that someone else may be interested in the territory.  I just dont see it happening in Indy again with the ECHL ownership group looking to buy or build every arena in the area now.

There is a difference between someone who plays hockey, and a Hockey Player. which one are you?

When the league took over the Buc Bowl from Des Moines and renamed it the Fall Classic and brought it to Sioux City the league promoted it as an event for both fans and scouts... that was then.  Now days it is clearly an event for scouts and fans are irrelevant.  Not sure why it has become that and didn't remain something that both scouts AND fans can enjoy.

I went to Pittsburgh last Sept for this event and it was a great time.  The facility is a relatively new one - where the Penguins practice - and it a great venue - just outside of the city.  The place was packed with NHL and NCAA scouts and fans.  Besides the great hockey, I stayed in downtown Pittsburgh which I found to be a great city for sports fans.  There are plenty of excellent bars and restaurants, so I would highly recommend the road trip if you have a chance to make it.

Thanks for the link, 101..........

The youth tournament is new?   Assume this is on site with the Fall Classic?

In addition to the return of the USHL Fall Classic, the USHL announced that two invitational youth tournaments, one featuring many of the top 14U teams and the other hosting many of the top 16U teams from the United States and Canada, will run in conjunction with the USHL Fall Classic. USHL teams will have scouts in attendance for both tournaments, and coaches from both college hockey and other junior hockey leagues across the globe will also be in attendance. Aligning the USHL Fall Classic and the youth tournaments will provide young players an up-close and personal view of the speed, skill and tenacity required to play junior hockey at the Tier 1 level.

Youth tournament is not new. Last year the U16s were in Omaha; the U14s were in Pittsburgh.

Should have been clearer.  The youth tournament is new in that it is on the same site and in conjunction with the Fall Classic?

Some of the U14 games were held on the 2nd rink at UPMC. But I'm guessing they'll be off site with that many USHL games being played this season.
