Returners----- Sioux Falls

Recommended Posts

Mr Ricochet

Gotta be excited as a Stampede fan for the coming year, no Joe? Looks like 10+ returners, a very good goaltender and two 2nd rounders and three 3rd rounders from this years Phase II. Can't remember if it's been answered but I'd love to see Aarne Talvitie play this year. 3rd rounder and captain of his WJC U-18 club: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=299098

Listening to Owens http://www.sfstampede.com/inside-stampede-hockey he mentions Pessault just showed up at tryout camp last year and that McAdams was the 324th player taken in the draft.

Rico - hard to say at this point - I'd like to see who is present when pre-season opens before I get too jacked.

F Gavin Hain - (Gone, team USA)

F Jaxon Nelson (BIG returner, if he is ready to step into the role of an enforcer, this will help a lot)

F Regen Cavanagh - Traded, feel like he would have been in for a great year based on the end of last.

F Khristian Acosta - could be ready to make an impact on the offensive end, not the greatest in the D zone, but, keep control of the puck and you don't need to play D, right? Has a very good shot, and could make a significant impact if he can make strides in the D zone.

F Matthew Quercia - Present at camp, but a non-participant. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's a precautionary measure after injury shut down his 2016-17 campaign.

F Nick Bowman - Bowman is a wild card, he's shown flashes, and at other times gotten lost in the shuffle. He does play a very respectable d zone for a forward, an issue the Herd struggled in last season.

F Grant Reichenbacher - Grant didn't stand out at camp, and hasn't really had that "WHOA" moment yet, but, I like smaller, scrappy players - lets see what he can do.

F Nolan Walker - No clue if hes actually coming back or not after he wasn't at camp, wouldn't be shocked if he played elsewhere this year, and went to SCSU next season.

D Colin Swoyer - Solid player but needs to cut down on the penalties, the entire d core for the herd need to be more willing to let pucks fly.

D Paul DeNaples - this guy...he can talk, and he can back it up on the ice, just for the attitude he brings, DeNaples would be one of my starting five, at least against SC first meeting

D AJ Villella - AJ found something inside of him the last six weeks last season, and continued to showcase that with a great camp - I am hoping for big things out of him this season, and think he may be the top member of this defensive unit by seasons end

D Jack St Ivany - St Ivany is very good on the defensive side, and much as I alluded to with Swoyer, he needs to be more willing to let the puck fly. Our lack of shots on goal last year was a glaring issue for a talented roster.

G Mikhail Berdin - I believe, he went home for the summer. Getting players back from EuroAsia is never the easiest task, doubly so when it is Russia we are talking about. I will be very happy if I see Berdin in SF again this fall, but i won't be shocked if I don't, or if it comes late.

Sure Joe, you never know what will happen until you see the bodies on the ice at camp. But with as many returners coming, a bunch of picks in the first 3 rounds you've got to like them on paper in July. ........ Plus you've got my guy 99 Dman Corson Green coming over from Chicago. He was stuck behind Mirageas and Lillibridge for offensive minutes but this kid was coming on as the season progressed. Head up, carried the puck out and found options. Game slowed down for him. Let me add in the Finals it was Green who shadowed that beast Pospisil and Tolvenen. Would follow em around the whole offensive zone. Muse must have thought this kid was the best combination of size and skating to handle that job. Says much let alone for a rookie on a cup team.

Why would you ask a 70 goal scorer in high school to become an enforcer?

Never seen anybody tender an enforcer, that would be a change.

Nelson used his size, specifically his length, more as the season went on and I saw more of it at camp. He kind of reminds me of Dakota Joshua that way. Part way through the season it seemed to have clicked that he was bigger and had more reach than those he was playing against and he started to use it. Now if he'd put on 20 lbs of muscle, he'd have the body and skills of a great power forward, like Joshua turned into his final season.

I'll be damned, a NY Hockey Journal article on Corson Green. Never mind they think he's going to SC, still a good read. Link

Because of everyone I saw at camp, combined with who is coming back, draft picks, etc, Jaxon is the only one I have seen who has the size and mentality.

As was mentioned by UT, as the season progressed, Jaxon REALLY started to use his size, and I think that will only continue as time goes on. I'm not saying he should be leading the league in penalty minutes, but, if he can continue using that size, legally to stay out of the box, it would be a huge benefit to the Herd.

I actually forgot about Corson until you brought that up Rico, pretty impressive "player to be named later" piece.

But yes, for July 7th, I like the team Rico. I've been spot on the last three seasons with my assessment of the team, after the pre season. Hopefully this is the year where we can put together the great defense, with a few scorers to have a potent offense.

As it sits on paper, I'd say the Herd either need to get the blue line firing more, or, they need to acquire one more play making center.

Must remember that Jaxon was 16 most of the season, turning 17 in the last 10 days of the year. Unfortunately he won't get the time to mature like Joshua did, as Minnesota is sure to take him as a true freshman.

I was told Sioux Falls will receive $4k since they are losing Hain. I asked why not the $10k Cedar Rapids got for DeRidder and was told it was because DeRidder was on the 23 man protected list and Hain was an affiliate

Ive looked for the answer to this question and cant find it. Lend an answer if you have one.

Does the payment reflect the protected/affiliate list at the end of last season OR the list submitted on July 9?

I am not sure of that. I was just given this information after he signed.

I am sure Hain was still on the affiliate list when he played the end of the season for Sioux Falls. He was never put on the active 23 man roster thus getting the $4k vs $10k
