Lutz another one timer blast beats Kulbakov again for the natural hattrick. Ref calls goalie interference, waives it off, but doesn't call a penalty!! :eeek: .......Still 2-0.

Kulbokov totally robs McManus, same shift YT comes down, shot hits the post, another shot at a wide open net hits the post again. Then Mirageas takes a High Stick double minor. Still 2-0, 2 seconds left in the 1st..........

Steel outshoot em, 12-8. YT starts the period on a 4 minute PP.

Steel win the faceoff to start the period shorthanded, send it down, Dockery with his back turned is stripped by Johnstone in the high slot, puck gathered, shot, save, rebound pops up in the air, Badini swoops in and slams it home for a shorty. 3-zip, :15 of the 2nd.

At 12:40 with YT down 3-0 Lillibridge makes an exit pass to Johnstone, Crawford takes 3-4 strides and levels Lilli, delayed penalty, Johnstone carries all the way in to the end wall, stops, turns, fires a pass cross ice out to Lewandowski inside the right circle, wrister, Kulbakov can't get over fast enough. 4-0, Chicago.

Up until then YT carried the play and zone time for a good 4 minutes.

Steel feed is getting horrid but somehow YT in the box again and at 16:52 Steel pile on. Puck is sent to Lutz for another one timer, smoked into Kulbakov's pad, Badini nicely peels it off in the crease to his backhand, up and over Kulbakov's pad. 5-0, Kulbakov yanked, League in.

Kulbakov 12 saves on 17 shots.

Fargo played pretty sloppy most of the night having trouble making passes. Bischel played pretty good stopping 30 of 32. Would of had a 5 minute power play in the 3rd down 1 when Muir drove Johnson in the boards and Washe grabbed whoever was close and started pounding on them, wasn't even Muir that he grabbed. Both Washe and Muir got 5 minutes and it remained even. Bad timing on pulling the goalie, Waterloo got an easy empty netters and added one more in the empty net before the end.

Just a beauty of a defensive effort from the Saints tonight. Castor made some saves, but outside of a few moments, it never felt like he got challenged that much.

Felt like Muskegon was making some noise but then Steeve's cross checked Gerads in the face, which pretty much ended their night.

Nasty....... Couple minutes later A Del Gaizo looked to give Gerads an elbow. His chirping is getting under the Jacks' skin and now Steeves is probably gone for at least one game and that's on top of no Svech or Kondelik.

Castor stops 36 of 36. Looks a bit like the Steel series in that most thought YT had the goaltending edge but Stezka like Castor is proving that otherwise, so far.

The Chicago Steel soared to a 6-0 win over the Youngstown Phantoms Saturday at Fox Valley Ice Arena, taking a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Semifinals best-of-five series. Ales Stezka denied all 40 Youngstown shots to record his fifth overall shutout of the season. The Steel went 4-for-7 on the power play, and registered a shorthanded goal as part of a 5-for-5 night on the penalty kill.

WCFcourier/Jim Nelson Hawks win another thriller for 2-0 series lead

The WTL-FAR series is closer than it seems. Hawks with an OT winner Friday and the 4-1 win last night includes to empty netters. Game 3 at Fargo should be a beauty.

Can't say enough about Castor and Stezka. Can't say they are the reason their teams are up 2-0 but they are outplaying their oppositions goalie when it was thought they were the weaker of the two. .....

I saw 4 periods of the Saints' series and wonder if calling them winning ugly is appropriate? Like Castor they do what's needed to win and sometimes it ain't pretty. Game 1 IMO had very little flow as the 2nd ranked offense shows the ability to lock things down and grind. The tactic is frustrating the Jacks and has the Saints up 2-0.

Right now the Steel are just exerting their will and Stezka is a poor Stezka clearing attempt at having two straight shutouts having stopped 65 of 66 and this is without two of their top 6 Dmen out. This guy gets zero style points but in the Crawford or Lundqvist mold he just stops pucks while stumbling and coughing rebounds, although his rebound control has been adequate in this series.

Kulbakov despite making 6-7-8 highlight reel saves has allowed 3 or 4 through he'd make the save 98 out of 100 times. Even in defeat the kid is worth the price of admission but he hasn't been nearly good enough.

So far the higher seeded team is up 2-0, SC plays today, and have protected home ice.
