A Minnesota USHL Entry?

Recommended Posts

Doesn't Racine need an arena built first?

I have no idea. Maybe I'm thinking of another town that's been rumored to get a USHL team.

Racine is that city but I believe the funding for a new arena is part of a huge downtown entertainment project to be voted on by the city council.

At least that's what I thought I read somewhere.

Since the Smiling Moose closed for freeway expansion, and I think the great pizza place across the street from the ice center closed, is there really any reason to go to Rochester? ;)

As long as the giant ear of corn is still there...

Seriously, though, always enjoyed the trips to Rochester...

Minnesota now looking unlikely for 2017. Looking like Bloomy may survive one more season before moving. Rumor, nothing confirmed, but several are saying they will be back for one more year.

Heard the same. I was told Bloomy missed a deadline to withdraw.

Has anyone heard anymore about Bloomington for 2017-18?

Hi guys, new to FYC!

My long-term goal is to do everything I can to bring a USHL team to Minnesota. I believe it is the best opinion for player development in the United States. Don't get me wrong I am a huge supporter of Minnesota HS hockey but I think it is time to try again for a USHL team in Minnesota. When the USHL first came to Minnesota the league was nowhere near what the league is today, plus the city of Rochester was nowhere near what it is today.

With that being said, it is going to be impossible to get the MSHSL on the "good side" of bringing a USHL to MN, preferable Rochester. So what I think would be the best idea is trying the youth programs (Minnesota Hockey) on the side of support. Difficult but I think it could be possible.

I love talking about this topic could go on for days about bringing a team to Minnesota but I thought I would just add my quick two-sense.

Love content from you guys, I've been reading it all morning... should be working! ha

The city of Rochester is booming, now the third largest city in MN. With the Mayo Clinic now this city will keep expanding for years to come. The hockey market is already strong in the community. 75 miles south of St. Paul, 86 miles southeast of Minneapolis, 80 miles west of Mankato, Rochester is a hole that could easily be filled with a USHL team.

Funding could also come from the support of the Mayo Clinic. Perhaps a new civic center built by them which there's already been talk. Funding could come from NHLers from the area, example like Suter a Madison Capitols. Tons of NHLers from Minnesotans that would love to throw their name in (David Backes maybe? From MN, played in the USHL, college in Mankato...its just a thought)

Getting Minnesota Youth Hockey on board by adding on a smaller ice sheet attached to proposed Mayo Clinic Civic Center. An ice sheet that you see ice mites and mites playing on that are getting introduced to the game (A half sheet). Helping develop the youth programs in the Rochester area, supported but the team.

The USHL is growing and gaining more and more respect in the junior hockey world year by year. The city of Rochester is too. The love for the game of hockey in Minnesota is like nowhere else in the United States and that will never change. The market isn't too saturated and I can be successful. The opportunity of an expansion team coming to Rochester is there and I want Minnesota to take advantage of it!

Rochester is a beautiful city imo, little too much snow and cold for my liking but such is life. I would think that a ushl team would do very well in that area, far enough away from the cities but close enough to visit if you so desire. With the Mayo Clinic being there as well I would think patients and or patients families would be looking for things to do while receiving treatments or waiting for appointments to see their specialist. Unfortunately the ushl got a bad rap along the way in Minnesota, but I think gradually they are regaining support in minnesota. I don't know if Rochester has an arena ready for ushl hockey or not but I would love to see a team back up there in 3-5 years!

Very nice work, Bicks. Keep on keepin on and my guess is most anyone who visits FYC is all for a MN USHL entry. If we can help you expose the thought most will.

Very nice, Bicks. Your work is so professionally done I'm guessing you will have more and more blogs and publications approaching you. ..........Just reread this thread. A lot of interested poster with very good observations. Really with the USHL nipping at the heals of the CHL in terms of churning out NHL draft picks it seems it's not if but when Minnesota gets a USHL franchise.
