CHL PR: CHL/IHL agreement ends following the 2011-12 season

GLENDALE, AZ (May 17, 2012) – The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the two-year agreement between the CHL and the International Hockey League (IHL) will not be renewed for the 2012-13 season. Both the Bloomington and Quad Cities markets have signed long-term CHL agreements, while Dayton, Evansville and Fort Wayne are no longer affiliated with the CHL.

CHL PR: Newest CHL franchise announces their name

Denver, CO – The Central Hockey League’s new Denver franchise announced today the team name will be the Cutthroats. The Denver Cutthroats have also released their seating sections, season ticket and game day prices for their upcoming inaugural season, which is scheduled to begin in October 2012 at the historic Denver Coliseum.

This is a great interview. I think 99% of FYC readers will enjoy this discussion. I think there are some very interesting things said here.

5500 to 6000 paid customers at the Minor League level or you are operating at a loss now days.....interesting.

Speculation that INDY is coming back to the Pro Game.

Sounds like the ECHL in FW is a lock, we knew this for months.....but Mike Franke dances with this topic.

Overall, very good stuff. The Interviewer was pretty darn good. Very impressive IMO.

However, Komets general manager David Franke hasn’t given up hope on getting Vaskivuo back for next season.

“He is in our plans for next season, but he’s a hot commodity right now,” said Franke, who has yet to make contract offers for next season. “I know he wanted to try Europe out. And I know they’re (typically) offering more in Europe than what they do in the states.

"But just because he’s signed in Europe doesn’t forbid him from getting out of the deal and signing in the states. I think he took the opportunity right now because it might not be there later, but we’ll work on him.”

The Central Hockey League’s (CHL) 20th Anniversary season came to an end earlier this week and during the milestone season, CHL teams saw 33 different players earn time in the American Hockey League (AHL) accounting for 49 total call-ups and 991 days in the AHL for the players.

Over the past two seasons, the CHL has had the most call-ups in the history of the league with 36 different players called-up last season and more than 2,500 days in the AHL over the past two seasons.

Well, with the announcement of the worst kept secret rapidly approaching (Komets and Evansville's jump to the ECHL), I was thinking about the Komets 2 year CHL experience and I couldnt be happier with them. Even the first year's humbling experience of the K's organization getting their rear ends handed to them for the first 2/3 of the season and ending with them bringing home the CHL's President's Cup as the champs in year 2, it was great! I would have zero problems staying in the league due to the quality of play we witnessed; but I'm excited for the impending move to the ECHL.

I loved the CHL's younger, faster tempo, in your face, make them make a mistake to capitalize on, etc... over what we had the 3 previous years in the IHL2. I believe these 2 years taught the K's front office how to recruit, what type of players to scout and how to build a team for AA developmental hockey. We finally saw players coming into camp (year 2) from great junior leagues like the OHL, WHL, USHL, etc... and the difference in these young players to the young players we were accostomed to seeing them bring into camp were night and day. We saw vets who were (for the most part) 100% invested into the team and not just floating for a paycheck. It was a refreshing change of pace, IMO.

I saw what makes Al Sims special as far as coaching goes. While an average regular season coach, he excells in the playoffs. He's the kind of coach I want on my team breaking down film and getting ready to face a team for a playoff series and then making in game or game to game adjustments to counter what the other team is or isnt doing. Just about ecery string he pulled in the playoffs worked. It was impressive to watch. If he comes with the Komets to the ECHL, it will be interesting to see how he deals with an even younger roster. He is as yet unsigned for next season.

All in all, the Komets CHL experience was great, IMO, and will be looked on by this fan as the proving ground for the K's franchise change to an even more developmental league in the ECHL. Leasons learned these past 2 seasons will go a long way towards any success the K's may have in year 1 of the ECHL. I'm looking forward to some renewed rivalries with old IHL (the true version) foes in Toledo, Kalamazoo, and Cincy!

Hockey In Fort Wayne

Hey guys I know this isn't exactly CHL related, but I'm putting together a floor hockey team (shoes, not skates) at the Plex (out by the Coliseum) and was wondering if there was any interest on here from guys to play.

If there's enough guys on here that would like to play, it'd be great to see there be a Komets FYC team.

It starts next Monday and runs eight weeks (7 regular season games plus the playoffs). Ideally, I'd like to find 10 guys so it would only be $60 per player. If there's only a couple, I could absorb them onto my current team.

PM me and we can talk more about it.
