We're all over the place, so we'll use this thread for the new schedule comments.

USHL Site: While splitting the 16 teams into two conferences, the League generated a schedule with more games played among teams in close proximity to each other in order to nurture geographic rivalries and better manage the travel demands for each team.

At first blush...

* I count 8 GB weeknight games. Prince says more than 90% of the games are weekend, so GB must be on the wrong end of the list because 13% of ours are weeknights.

* Two Brown County Arena games? I expect one when state volleyball is in the Resch, but two? At least it's in December, so there's a chance of having decent ice.

* Opening at home to raise banners is always nice!

If I counted correctly, Green Bay's opponents:

7x each - Des Moines, Waterloo, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids

4x each - Indy, Youngstown, USA, Chicago and Muskegon

2x each - Fargo, Tri City, Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Lincoln, Omaha

So, GB plays the Bucs - a team in the other conference - 7 times, more than we play several other teams in our conference - and more than at least two teams closer to us physically. Doesn't make sense to me...

The 9-games in 17-day stretch in February - with the three road games in Lincoln, Omaha and Waterloo, looks particularly brutal.

Lincoln plays:

8 times: Omaha, Tri-City, Sioux City, Sioux Falls, and Fargo
2 times: every other team in the USHL

4 weekday games at home.
Longest home-stand is only 4 games.
First half of the season, 17 games at home....13 on the road.
No Halloween game at the IceBox. :(

Rico...Saturday, October 23th. Steel at Stars. Make the trip and I'll have a free seat and beer waiting for ya. :)

Saints play teams in their division (Western)18 times, and teams in the Eastern Division 42 times. And their travel schedule is horrendous. One instance, Souix city on Friday @ SC and then back home in DBQ for U 17 on Saturday. I realize the scheduling was probably a nightmare but OMG. I'm sure Saints aren't the only team whose travel schedule sucks.

I see only 5 weeknight games,

We have 2 Weds but 1 is before thanksgiving and is considered a weekend.

4 Thursday night Games??? Must be trying something new, but I guess its better than Tues or Wed!!!!

7 Fridays
13 Saturdays
4 Sundays and them games normal start at 3!!!

I like it for the most part except we only play Fargo, TC, SC, SF, Omaha, and Lincoln 1 game here and 1 game there? I always like doing road trips out there and when its only 1 game its really hard to do!!!!!

Thats normal!!!!! Thats probly only a 4 hour bus trip from Dub to SC. Green Bay and Indy use to do it all the time and thats a 7 hour trip!!!!!

I'm not gonna say for a minute I could do better, but when I saw they were going with two conferences I knew we'd see things like you posted. IMO they should have gone with 3 divisions and an unbalanced schedule.

Once the writers get a chance to digest these we'll see some good articles on scheduling quirks for each team.

They need to expand east!!

BlueJackets are in town to battle the Hawks!! You know what Yeti, you are so far that when I finally do make the trip to Lincoln, I'll see the Lancers play the Stars. That is a long time rivalry with some bite to it.

My kinda hockey, even though I have no rooting interest it would be better to me than seeing the Steel at The Ice Box. Unless of course the two clubs met in the Finals!!!

Steel Schedule

Quote

At the conclusion of the regular season schedule, the top six teams in each Conference will qualify for the Clark Cup Playoffs. The first and second place teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences will earn a first-round playoff bye as the remaining four teams in each Conference will vie for the two remaining spots in the second round. The winner of each playoff race in the respective conferences will meet in a best-of-five final series for the Clark Cup.

If you're new to the USHL that's normal...seldom will you play the same team back to back like they do in the lower junior leagues...

Jamie -

Wed., Nov. 24
Wed., Dec. 29
Wed., Jan. 19
Thur., Feb. 3
Thur., Feb. 10
Wed., Feb. 16
Thur., Feb. 24
Thur., March 17

Yes, one is the night before Thanksgiving, but given that it traditionall draws like a weeknight game (unlike whenever New Year's Eve falls), I'm still counting it as a weeknight. I don't know if Waterloo schools have class that day, but that does mitigate...
