Tough to see Muskegon walk away with the history behind the organization. I am glad they finally released the news instead of leading the fans to speculations the rest of the year.

I just wish the team would have been the ones to release the news. Only seemed fair.

Do you hear what you just said? AHL material?
I'm the biggest Muskegon Lumberjack fan you'll ever meet.
I'm also probably the biggest heckler you'll also meet at the L.C. Walker Arena.
I always sit in Section 107 Row M seats 8-13.

Yes, I just read what I typed and I meant what I wrote. I could picture a few of these players in the AHL in the future.

I understand and agree with your points. But, the IHL is a joke. It's the "stuck in the minor leagues for your career" hole, of a league. You could argue that once the UHL went under, that was the end of viability of that league.

I will not argue with points you are making if you can answer one question:

Who was the last Lumberjack/Fury player to play in the NHL?

I don't know off the top of my head, but I can guarantee you once the general public sees one or two of these players playing in the big leagues, and the fans come back (and they probably will), we'll be alright.

I wasn't old enough to remember when the Jacks' scooted town the first time in 92, but I can imagine that it was a lot worse than it is now. There wasn't another owner there right away.

The team did release it, through the newspaper. You reach a lot more people that way than through a Web site.

I'd say Rumun Ndur was the last NHL'r to play for the Fury/Lumberjacks. He played for the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, and Atlanta Thrashers.
Sebastien Centomo played for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Before that we had Steve Webb with the New York Islanders and Chris Neil with the Ottawa Senators

Ryan Keller and Clay Wilson, and that's just two right off the top of my head from the last 5 or so years.

I am equally as sad that Muskegon is going as I was when K-Zoo left. It is a sad day for us fans of hockey in FW. We will miss the great rivalry and the good people of Muskegon. Best Wishes.

It is my nature to end with a joke......so here it goes....

Can we just go ahead and re-claim our Turner Cup now, I mean, Muskegon is leaving, they might as well be gone, right? And Port Huron.....can't we just save them the humilation of choking again this season and not have to put them thru another year where they shoulda, coulda, woulda.......I mean, I am tired of yelling at Larry.........lets give that poor guy a break. I hear he likes the booby bars in FW though, it might be worth the trip for him.......

Seriously, Sad day.
HEY BUDDY!!! It's all about Minor Hockey World Dominance...

Well Shoot.....

Can only hope for some good ticket and promotions to close out there year now i suppose.

We'll give the new kids a look next year, but if it doesn't take, it's the same amount of time or even closer for a lot of us to go to Grand Rapids for the Griffins.

It was an absolute joy to watch Keller play.  By far my favorite player to wear a Muskegon uniform.

Komets to lose rival Muskegon - NS/Blake Sebring

“Let’s just wait and see what happens between now and the end of the spring,” Franke said. “I think the next couple of months are going to be very, very interesting. I think something good is going to come from all of this because now everyone in minor league hockey is finally talking.”

This isn't the "first" time leagues have talked....maybe the way that Franke wants them to, but def. not the first time.

When you're talking about NHL player you need to be talking about guys moving up. The chances of that are pretty slim. But they aren't vastly better for USHL players either.

Below is a list of all the West Michigan Whitecaps baseball players who have played in the major leagues. These are players that are in the pipeline having been scouted and drafted by major league teams. It totals 60 players in 16 years. Only a handful of starters and just 1 all-star. This is the kind of "pipeline to the NHL" you can expect from the USHL. Take a look for yourself: USHL - NHL

Doesn't sound to me like the Frankes are giving up at all with this. The spin cycle is already in progress. They're now going to try and tout having LESS teams as being BETTER for the league and that it strengthens it?

Two things.

1. The USHL is still growing. It should start to turn out more and better talent in coming years.
2. The list of West Michigan Whitecaps may not be that impressive, but that may be because of their affiliation. Look at some of the other Midwest League teams. Kane County has had Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Gonzalez, Huston Street, Josh Beckett, and A.J. Burnett. Quad Cities has had Jim Edmonds, Brad Lidge, Carlos Guillen, Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and Johan Santana. Peoria has had Greg Maddux, Mark Grace, Rafeal Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina. David Ortiz and A-Rod got their start with the Timber Rattlers. And there are many, many more...

on a per-team basis, the 12-team USHL produces as many NHL players as the 60-team CHL.

this is sh****... good luck guys. i wish you well.

and AGAIN, dont like the IHL? Cool, dont come around. id rather sit thru ONE game or catch up on some info on these sites without some clowns disrespecting the leagues/teams/players/owners. go where ever you feel is better. Im not goin to USHL, CHL, ECHL, or watever blogs making fun or calling them "a go no where league" or stuck in a bla bla bla.... grow up. ITS HOCKEY. jesus thats annoying. like i have stated many many times (about as many times i hear some people make fun with supid comments like that) i wish the hockey world in general the best of luck. every league can sure as hell use it these days... if we got rid of every league, team, player, or owner that someone...SOMEONE, didnt like. we would have nothing to watch or follow.

good luck Jacks. i gotta get up for at least one more game this year for sure!
good luck IHL, your gonna need it!
good luck me... seriously picked the wrong time to quit drinkin eh???

I remember this awhile back Tbird. A statistical analysis showing the USHL kids score at a rate equal to Canadian Major Junior players in higher leagues. Link

Quote

It is clear that regardless of the analysis method, players who play in the USHL and CHL perform approximately the same once they get to higher-level leagues. Allowing for a year's worth of improvement, 18-year-olds in the USHL would maintain their level of scoring at age 19 if they transferred to Canadian Tier I Junior. Were they to transfer during the same season, they would likely maintain at least 80% of their scoring.
