Have no idea what the Steel received back in return, except for what you posted Ryan.
I liked that Sorkin kid. Gotta look through my notes to see if I have anything on him.
Yanakeff if I remember correctly was kicked off the NTDP and has now been moved by SC. Is this kid trouble?

I am also hearing that Darik Angeli might have been traded from SC to Chicago as well.

It would appear that way, but who knows as we don't know what's coming back for Anthoine and Wolfe. But my early guess is yes Fang. They are 5 points back of WTL, who has a game in hand, with only 20 games left.
Both Angeli and Latta are 1990's. Will they be back next year? Gonna have to wait too see what comes back for the other two kids. Should be up on Pointstreak tomorrow.
In the last month they have moved out Gill, Wolfe, Anthione and Krush. That's 4 of their top 6 forwards. Add to that hitting machine Charlie Thauwald being sent to the NAHL. Dman Oleksiak was sent to SF last month and a couple months ago a damn good Dman, Patrick Raley, was moved out as well. Apparently Poapst hasn't liked what he's seen of his club for awhile now.

Sioux Falls, SD—The Sioux Falls Stampede announced they have acquired All-Star forward Mark Anthoine (Ann-TWan) from the Chicago Steel in exchange for affiliate forward Charlie O’Connor.
I'm also reading that Chicago received Danny Mattson from Omaha. I thought that might be a possibility after seeing Mattson wasn't suited last night.

Lookin at the Steel,it looks like they just swapped out top 6 guys for 3rd liners of the same age unless draft picks were thrown in that I'm not aware of. Or,that the guys who came back that are the same age as guys that were shipped out will be back next year whereas those shipped out wouldn't.
You also missed Sahir Gill a 91 being shipped back to Canada. This kid skated top 6 and had 26 points in 26 games as a rookie!!!! Steel got nothin.
Partik Raley, 1989, was also sent packing in December and at that time he was the best Steel Dman. Steel got nothin.
Anyway a look at what the Steel got for what they gave up this week. In every case, except for Anthoine, they gave up a top 6 guy for a lower line player of the same age. But,like I said they may have gotten draft picks I'm not aware of. I also can't make determinations on Latta, Matteson or O'Conner as I don't have any notes on them. But they are replacing top Steel players.
Anthoine, (SEP 90) for O'Conner a 2009 3rd round SF futures pick. Anthoine has a point a game this year.
Krushynyski, (NOV 90) for Angeli (OCT 90) and Latta (JUL 90). Krush had 25 points in 37 games. I really liked the Angeli kid the one time I saw him and actually like this trade.
Wolfe, (APR 90) for Matteson (NOV 90). Wolfman has 32 points in 39 games. A top player on the club, no doubt.
Oleksiak, (DEC 92) for Coyne (JUL 91). After seeing Coyne twice this trade ain't too bad if he's back next year.
Cole Gunner, (OCT 91) from Fargo for a draft pick. Don't know what round pick.
Flyin Ryan, what is the cut off date (month) for a 20 year old to start a season? Meaning if a kid is 20 at the start of next year at what month would his birthday be that would make him too old to play next year?

If I understand it correctly, they can't turn 21 before Dec 31st, so any 1990 birth year would still be eligible next year

The USHL guidelines are that a player cannot be 21 prior to December 31 (as Ryan stated). Once a player is 21, they cannot participate in game action unless they are actively enrolled and ATTENDING classes at a college or university (online cases are acceptable). This requires a little pre-planning on their behalf, especially if they are a February or March birthday. In addition, they lose a year of college eligibility and begin their college athletic careers as sophomores, with four years to play three.

I don't know, maybe they want to miss the playoffs for financial reasons?

Who is PROAPST? Do you mean Poapst? Guess you better change your screen name.
Miss the playoffs for financial reasons? Explain?
Two years in a row missing the playoffs? Looks like you have already written them off. Two years ago they were in, last year the missed it.

As one with admitedly little inight into the Steel organization, their recent trades of many of their top scorers sure appears as if they are writing the season off...

Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye, but it certainly seems like a fire sale took place on this year's team and they are looking more to next year.
Oh, there is plenty of fan disappointment I can guarantee you that from the short time I had to converse with Steel fans last Saturday. Last year a USHL top scorer, Eric Alexander was traded to Lincoln late in the year. This year #'s 2-3 and 4 top Steel scorers are traded, and two of them were captains in Wolfe and Anthoine!!! Add Gill who went last month and he was a point a game guy as a rookie.
A Steel fan has to be disappointed,as any other fan would be as well. Indeed the playoffs look bleak, but they didn't look that hot before the trades either and the Steel traded top 6 forwards!! If the same thing occurs next year then we will see a pattern, but I'm willing to give management the benefit of the doubt and hope these trades set the club up for better times next year........
TNT STEEL, on 11 February 2010 - 01:37 PM, said:
Well sure, there always is. It ain't always that a trade is made to bring in a better player. There are addition by subtraction moves. Coaches don't like players and their gone. Players don't like coaches and their gone. The question is for a fan of a team, is does this happen to my club more often than others?
A fair question for fans of franchises IMO.......
